The ladies in Princeton requested access to theological instruction while A. A. Hodge was chair of systematic theology there. He acquiesced, and conducted the lectures himself. They were such a success that they were repeated in Philadelphia.
Hodge agreed to have the lectures published, and was in the process of revising them when he died unexpectedly. The publisher continued with the process and published all the lectures as Hodge had left them.
These lectures are a very clear and basic introduction to Reformed Christianity. They are very accessible to the layman. Hodge, ever the champion of educating laymen, is at his very best here.
